Let's talk about school. One of the reasons Mom and Dad wanted to move to Idaho was so they could have more freedom to teach me how they wanted. Washington makes homeschoolers take tests once they turn 8. (Yuck.) But we don't do tests. We do "unschooling." That means we don't have assignments about boring stuff. If I'm interested in something, we explore it. Dad likes to say the world is my classroom. That sounds about right. So we kind of make stuff up as we go along. Every day is a new adventure! Mom does give me homework once in a while, which I actually like doing, but most of the time we just go with the flow.
Mom loves art. So do I. I spend a lot of my time sketching with my pens.
I have sketchbooks and sketchbooks full of people I've created. And I love creating stuff with Mom. We used to go to an art class every week here in town, but that ended. So now we spend even more time at home, and Mom is my art teacher! We both create things, but where I like sketching, she likes painting and putting together Legos. (You should see her office. It's full of Lego creations!)
Here's some of the stuff Mom made. She decided we should study abstract art. This is what she came up with. They're pretty cool! We have them hanging up in our living room now.
Dad likes some abstract artist called Piet Mondrian. I guess he (Piet Mondrian, not my dad) made paintings that were just like blocks of colors in basic shapes like triangles and squares. So Mom decided to make him some paintings for his office that look like something he would have painted. They're four canvases that all fit together!
Then Mom made me this cool painting of a rose, with neat splashes of paint. I love how creative she is!
Dad keeps telling her she should open an Etsy store and sell her stuff. But she'd rather keep it for us, which I guess is nice.
She also made me a wreath for my door. Perfect for the spoopy season coming up! (Yes, I said spoopy, and yes, I love Halloween!)
Then we had a scavenger hunt! Mom likes making those, too. The first time she did it, it was for Dad and me both. Then we did another big one for my 8th birthday party. This one was just for me to work on. I like how Mom even worked school into my hunt. I had to do things like crosswords and figure out math problems to get to the end. It was lots of fun!
I think we're going to start working with resin pretty soon. And I know Dad would like me to learn guitar. We have an old piano, too, so maybe someday I'll get back into piano lessons. I just love being artistic overall! That's how we roll around here.
